Don't know if it's related but ...
I did a new clean install of Notes at the weekend on a new laptop, and because it already had Office installed, I tried to remove Office first - well, in Windows 7, with this cockamamie 'Office Virtualization Client' crap, turned out not to be possible - Office is too deeply embedded in Windows 7 to remove & reinstall it

I have been advised to do a clean, Office free install of Windows 7 first, but of course that screws up the licensing of the OVC, so I am at a loss myself
